I started my 4th village and didny have 3 adept builders to fix the lift so i waited until i could banish the sharks to fish.I only had 2 villagers starve.I dont really like 3 trees..

I think you just have to have the lab .Try having a villager jump several times.I had trouble with that diamond too..

Yes you need the alchemy lab.If you have that they should jump up and get the key,and put it in the door..
